Number of infection grows as testing capacity increases

The ministry today announced that 147 people have tested positive for Corona virus in the last 24 hours from a total of 2,831 samples tested. This now brings the national tally to 1,618.

The Health Cabinet Secretary, Hon Mutahi Kagwe  said that number of positive infections are likely to increase as the ministry continue to increase its testing capacities.

All of the cases are Kenyan Nationals with 87 of them being male and 60 females. In terms of gender, the youngest is 1 year old and the oldest 87 years old.

The distribution of cases in counties are; Nairobi 90, Mombasa 41, Kiambu 3, Busia 2, Nyeri 2, Uasin Gishu 2 and Kajiado, Kilifi, Homa Bay, Embu, Machakos and Muranga each having one case.

In Nairobi, Kibra is leading with confirmed cases with 35 infections, Langata 15, Westlands 8, Makadara 9, Embakasi Central 6, Embakasi West 5, Kasarani 4,  Kamukunji 2, Dagoretti North 2, Starehe 2 and Roysambu and Mathare having one case each.

In Mombasa, Jomvu has 41, Mvita 10, Changamwe 6 and Kisauni, Likoni and Nyali having 5 each. Kiambu has one case each in Kiambu Town, Thika and Kikuyu. Busia’s cases are from point of entry.

Nyeri’s cases are from Nyeri town while in Uasin Gishu, the cases are from Turbo. The case in Kajiado is from Kajiado North, Homa Bay from Manyatta, Murang’a from Makuyu and Machakos the case is from Athi River.

The CS also announced that 13 more people have been discharged from hospital raising the number of recoveries to 421. However, he stated that 3 people have died as a result of the virus. All had underlying conditions.
