Mombasa to be testing centre for truck drivers

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr.Rashid Aman today  at Afya House confirmed that 12 more cases tested positive making a total of 396 in the country. This comes from a total of 777 samples tested from 14 counties in the last 24 hours.

The Health CS announced that 7 of the cases are from Mombasa, 3 from Nairobi and 1 each from Wajir and Kitui. The cases in Mombasa are spread between Kuze (Old Town) with 4, Bondeni 1 and Kidunguni 1. The cases in Nairobi are from  Eastleigh, Fedha and Kileleshwa. 5 of the cases were from quarantine centres while 7 were picked up by the ministry’s surveillance teams. As of today, a total of 20,268 samples have been tested.

The gender distribution consists of 9 males and 3 females while the age distribution ranges from 1 and a half years for the youngest and 75 years for the oldest.

He also confirmed that 2 more patients have died in the same time period bringing the number of fatalities to 17.

As part of a strategy to combat the disease, Kenya as a member of the EAC has decided that in order to ease clearance of truck drivers at the border, all Kenyan drivers shall be tested from Mombasa.
