Government expands testing capacity in Nairobi and Eldoret

The Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), Dr. Mercy Mwangangi today announced that according to the Government analysis 56% of all confirmed cases were imported, and only 44% have been locally transmitted so far.She went on to say that in their efforts to expand their testing capabilities,  the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret and Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in Nairobi are now testing for Covid-19 disease with the MTRC now able to handle samples from 22 counties.

In the last 24 hours, a total of 1,330 samples have been tested and out of these, 8 new cases have been confirmed. The number of infections now stand at 270. From the new cases, 7 are Kenyans while 1 is a foreign national with none having a history of travel. 3 of the cases were from quarantine facilities while 5 were picked up by the ministry’s surveillance teams around the country.

Mombasa has 4 cases, Nairobi 3 and 1 in Kajiado. The age distribution is between 17 and 65 years. 7 new recoveries were recorded  and now the country has 67 confirmed recoveries.

2 more people have lost their lives within the same period bringing the total number of deaths to 14. The CAS announced that the situation in Mombasa is alarming as more estates continue to get affected.
