Fares hiked as 1 more case is confirmed

During today’s press briefing, the Health CS, Hon Mutahi Kagwe confirmed one more additional case of the Corona virus (COVID-19) bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 16. The Ministry of Health, working together with County Governments, has traced 646 persons who had come into close contact with the confirmed cases. 96 of these contacts have been already released after completing the 14 days follow up period.
He also said that several public transport operators have now increased their fares as a result of the ministry’s directive yesterday regarding the Public Transport sector. He made an appeal to the matatu industry and others within the sector not to increase the fares for the commuters would be counterproductive to the measures put in place by the government to fight the spread of the disease.
He also thanked the hotels that have already accommodated travellers that have come into the country and are being held under mandatory quarantine.
