Dr. Patrick Amoth: Covid-19 likely to be endemic

The Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS), Dr. Mercy Mwangangi today announced that 21 more people have tested positive for Corona virus within the last 24 hours from a total of 1,486 samples tested, raising the number of infections to 758. All 21 cases are Kenyans.

The 21 cases are distributed in Nairobi with 4, 12 from Mombasa, 4 from Kajiado and 1 in Uasin Gishu. In Nairobi, 2 of the cases are from Eastleigh and 2 from Kibra. In Mombasa, 5 are from Likoni, 4 from Mvita, 2from Jomvu and 1 case from Nyali.

In Kajiado, 1 of the cases is from Loitoktok, 3 from  Namanga border point while the case from Uasin Gishu is from Turbo.

The ministry also announced that it had recorded 3 new discharges bringing the total recoveries to 284.

The CAS disclosed 2 more patients had died from Nairobi, bringing the number of fatalities to 42.

The Acting Director General for the Ministry of Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth also added that its possible for the virus to turn into an endemic and the country should brace itself to life with the virus in line with the measures put in place.

He also added that the restrictions put in place will be raised steadily based on the modelling being done based on science and information
